Maintaining Focus In Prayer: Why It’s Important & How To Focus Your Mind On God While You Pray

God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. (John 4:24).

Having one’s focus on God, and maintaining and aligning focus in the direction of one’s prayer is very important. Prayers are very less effective if one’s mind is not in sync with the direction in which he/she prays.

People experience this a lot that while they pray, their minds often wander from what they are praying about. These are distractions that if not well handled and curtailed, could hinder you from receiving the answers to your prayers.

In order for us to receive the answers to the prayers we pray, our minds must be in sync and in the direction of the prayers we pray. We must therefore focus our attention and mind on God while we pray in order to receive any answers to prayers.

Because God is Spirit, those who worship Him must do so in spirit and in truth. We must avoid all forms of distraction and have all our attention on God while worshiping or praying to Him.

Distractions come as a result of many things. To stop the distraction, we must first identify where the distraction is coming from. Then we must deliberately stop the distraction from causing our minds to wander off the prayer course.

If the mind wanders off again, we must refocus it on the point and direction of the prayer. In doing so, we train our minds to remain focused.

While praying in tongues, one must ensure to align his/her mind in the direction of the prayer. Praying for the manifestation of the power of God in the meeting tonight, you are praying in tongues and in the spirit, but your mind is on the food you will eat later at home. This is an example of how people’s minds could wander from the point or direction of the prayer. You must deliberately realign your mind in the prayer direction, and when it wanders off again, realign it again and train the mind in this way. You must have your mind on God and in the direction of what you are praying about to have an effective prayer.
