Numbers 1–3
Mark 3
See, I have placed before you an open door.

Revelation 3:8

Today’s Scripture & Insight :

Revelation 3:7–11
At my new school near a huge metropolis, the guidance counselor took one look at me and assigned me to the lowest performing English composition class. I’d graduated from my inner-city school with top test scores, high grades, and even a principal’s award for my writing. When the counselor concluded I wasn’t right or ready, I was denied access to the “best” writing class at my new school.

The church in ancient Philadelphia would have comprehended such arbitrary impediments. It was a modest and humble church, and the city had recently experienced earthquakes that had caused long-term damage. In addition, they encountered diabolical opposition (Revelation 3:9). Such a neglected church had “little strength,” but as the rising Jesus acknowledged, “you have kept my word and have not denied my name” (v.8). As a result, God placed before them “an open door that no one can shut” (v. 8). On the contrary, “what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open” (v. 7, emphasis added).

That is true of our ministry efforts. Some doors do not open. Despite one counselor’s closed attitudes, God has opened avenues for me to write for Him, allowing it to reach a global audience. Closed doors will not deter you either. “I am the door,” Jesus stated (John 10:9 KJV). Let us enter the doors He has opened and follow Him.

Reflect & Pray

What doors has God opened for you? How does your ministry and life flourish when you wait for His openings?

When doors close to me, dear God, may I turn to You, the Holy Door, and walk where and how You say to go.
